The Organic Box provides a convenient way to shop for local grocery products you’ll love... and feel good about buying. We offer a full range of grocery items, and support local, independent producers whenever we can. Many of our products are organic or transitional, and we also offer alternatives from local, family farms that are making an effort to have less of an impact on the land. Best of all, we deliver everything right to your door!
You can choose to order groceries for delivery without a minimum order, or you can choose to have a curated produce box auto-delivered to you. You can skip, pause or cancel any time!
A subscription service makes shopping easy, and saves you money.
A new box can be sent to you automatically every week, or as often as you would like.
Each new box will be filled with items specially chosen by our experts. You'll get the best of what's new or in season.
But don't worry if surprises aren't your thing. Our website will show you a list of what's going to be in your box before it's delivered, allowing you to customize your order as you like. Add items, remove items, or change quantities; you're in control. The Organic Box is flexible, you can skip, pause or cancel at any time!
In our curated boxes you will only find certified organic produce with the exception of The Local Organic Box. The Local Organic Box occasionally will have non-organic items from local Alberta or BC farms in it when local organic is not available.
We have recently introduced a select offering of non-organic items that may not be local. We did not make this decision lightly. We know our Food Family values fresh fruits and veggies, but we understand inflation paired with the premium price on local, organic produce can be prohibitive at times with the rising cost of food. We wanted to offer options for those who need to accommodate tighter budgets during these times.
Non-organic items will never be added to our curated boxes. They are simply available for those who would like to add them to their order.
In addition to familiar foods such as broccoli, apples and carrots, we find and support less common fruits and vegetables in order to accommodate a variety of preferences and diets.
In our newsletter, we include information about more uncommon produce, including a weekly recipe. Our website and Facebook page (The Organic Box Edmonton) also post new recipe ideas and tips. However, please feel free to update your preferences and to customize your box to suit your routine and diet.
Locally grown food is truly living food! Without chemical preservatives, keeping your produce cold is key to extending its shelf life. A cold refrigerator set to no warmer than four degrees will help all your fruits and veggies last longer. With the exception of bananas, do not store your produce on the counter, as it will spoil more quickly than chemically preserved produce. This is especially true of organic fruit and berries.
Greens (chard, lettuce, celery) may need hydration and will perk right up if given a cold water bath in the fridge. For more information, check out our Food Storage Tips for tips on keeping your fruit and vegetables fresh. Please also feel free to send us your tips for inclusion in the newsletter.
Your invoice is updated when your order is packed to reflect any last-minute changes. A receipt is printed and included in your box to confirm these changes. If you were charged for an item but did not receive it, please leave a Rate My Box, and our customer service team will apply a credit to your account.
We occasionally have to make minor substitutions at the last minute because the availability of a product has changed.
We do our best to send product from the supplier listed, but from time to time, we may have to send a similar product from a different producer. There are a variety of reasons for this, including:
Your receipt will notify you of these substitutions. If you do not wish to receive substitutions on your orders you may contact customer service to add 'No Substitutions' to your account.
If you have any questions about your receipt, please contact us in the office.
Check outside. It could be hidden somewhere in your front or back yard, lobby or with a neighbour.
If you cannot locate your box, please call the office in the morning or leave a message that night. You can also email info@theorganicbox.ca. The sooner you let us know the better we can react.
The best way to let us know how you feel about your Organic Box, good or bad is to Rate Your Box.
Our team of loving customer service staff will address any concerns you may have and also love to pass on any love you have for your newfound favourite products.

On occasion when we sell out of a product we have to mark that product as unavailable so other Food Family Members cannot add it to their basket. Don't fret though, if you have the item in your basket and it says out of stock, you should still be receiving it with your next delivery. Customers aren't able to remove items that are "out of stock". They have to contact Customer Service to have the item removed.
Organic food is grown and processed the way nature intended—without synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or antibiotics. This provides healthier, better tasting food that is good for you, and our earth.
Producing organic food benefits the environment through the promotion of biodiversity and the reduction of water, air and land pollution. Eating organic food reduces the amount of toxins ingested, contributing to greater health. This includes farmers who work in fields where chemical fertilizers and pesticides are used.
The primary goal of organic agriculture is to optimize the health and productivity of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, animals and people.
Whenever possible, we purchase and support Fair Trade products, provided they are certified organic.
Some examples of Fair Trade products we carry are bananas, as well as a variety of chocolate and spices.
The Organic Box is a member of the Alberta Organic Producers Association (AOPA) and our warehouse is a certified organic food processing facility. The following links are useful places to learn more about organic food:

No. We will leave your Organic Box wherever you indicate in your delivery instructions (e.g. garage, porch, front step, shed, balcony, with a neighbour, lobby, etc). In the colder winter months, your box should not sit outside for longer than 20 minutes, so please update your delivery instructions accordingly.
When the temperature is expected to go below -15°C we will put a tote liner in any orders going out for home delivery for added protection.
You may elect to pick up your box at our warehouse if you do not have a suitable location for winter delivery. In the summer months, please select a location out of direct sunlight and rain. Remember to leave out your empty box for collection.
This fully refundable deposit is to ensure that we get our green tote and other materials back so we can reuse them. If in the future you choose to inactivate your account, please reach out to us so that we can process your refund.
Your Organic Box order is delivered in a reusable, plastic green tote along with reusable freezer packs, insulated bubble packs & tote liners. Your account will keep track of the number of totes in your care. You will receive a notification from us when your tote has been out for four weeks, and we will remind you to return it before six weeks. If your tote isn't returned on time, you will be charged a $20 late tote fee, which is fully refundable once the tote is returned. Not to fret, when the tote is returned, you will automatically be credited back the fee on your account for the totes. Please note that Holiday Stops do not affect your tote return time. If you know you'll be using an extended Holiday Stop, please call us at 780-469-1900 to arrange a tote pickup.
This is not a problem. We will still leave your full Organic Box for you and can collect the two empty boxes at your next delivery date. If you receive your order in a Green Tote, your account will reflect the number of Totes in your care and notify you if they have not been returned after 4 weeks, and the 100% refundable late tote fee will be charged at 6 weeks.
We will do our best to deliver your box to an apartment, but require delivery instructions on what to do if you are not home. Apartment deliveries, without delivery instructions or access inside the building, will be brought back to our warehouse for customer pick up.
Boxes left in vestibules at the your request, will not be replaced if stolen. If you would like to discuss your specific delivery circumstances please call our office to make arrangements at 780-469-1900 or email us at info@theorganicbox.ca
Tell us what would assist the driver and keep your food the freshest. Examples include if you have dogs; instructions for seasonal weather (if you have a garage code for winter or a shady spot during summer hot days); or if your residence is hard to find.
You can update your delivery instructions here.
We send an email to your given email address(es) when the box has been delivered to the chosen pick-up location. If you wish to be called or texted as well, you can add either option to your delivery instructions.
The boxes are packed throughout the day and delivered between the hours of 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Your delivery day depends on your address, and is determined by the first three letters of your postal code. Take a look on our Where We Deliver page to see when we will be in your area.
There are several reasons why a delivery order may not arrive. Examples include weather conditions that made your delivery driver concerned about your box's contents getting damaged (e.g. spoiled or frozen); produce spoiling, payment was still required on your account; your delivery instructions directed the driver to return the box under specific circumstance; or we could not gain entrance into your apartment or condominium building.
If a box returned to our warehouse, we will keep it in our cooler for pick-up during office hours. Otherwise, we schedule it for a re-delivery on following week’s delivery schedule.
If we have not heard from you after your second re-delivery, we will unpack the box to prevent food wastage, refund the amount of that box on your account and suspend your account until you get in touch with us to prevent further unnecessary charges and deliveries.
You can pay by either automatic withdrawal, credit card, or e-Transfer.
Orders are invoiced and payments are processed when your order is packed and sent out for delivery.
Let us know when you will be on holiday using the Holiday Stops page. Markdown the dates you will be away and your orders will be suspended for the duration of your holiday.
All cancellations must be made prior to your order cut-off time. This can be done by adding a Holiday Stop to your account or by requesting a Holiday Stop by phone, email, or chat widget. All Holiday Stop requests must be made prior to your order cut-off time. Any orders cancelled after the order cut-off time, but prior to the day of delivery are subject to a $15.00 cancellation fee. Any orders cancelled on the day of delivery are considered to be packed and paid for and are charged in full.
Please contact us at info@theorganicbox.ca if you have any questions about cancelling a delivery.
We understand circumstances change and that may cause you to want to cancel. Here at The Organic Box, we are completely flexible. You can cancel, pause or skip deliveries as needed, we just ask that you get in contact with us through our web contact form, calling us at 780-469-1900 or sending an email, to ensure the appropriate changes have been made correctly!
If you are having a problem with the quality of the produce or the service, we encourage you to let us know so we can make it right through refund or replacement, where appropriate. We have a 100% quality guarantee as we want everyone to be completely satisfied with their The Organic Box experience.
The 'Beyond The Box and Delivery' fee is a standard fee that we charge all members to help offset the many costs that The Organic Box incurs for activities that go beyond the daily operational expenses of the business. This fee in the past was called the sustainability fee, but we felt that it needed a change in wording as sustainability did not quite fit with all that we are doing that goes beyond being just a business that sells food online. You can see all of the ways we make an impact in our community here.
The Beyond The Box and Delivery Fee is $6.99.
